VOLUNTEER HOURS

SYHA Volunteer Hours & Crossbar Tracking

SYHA now uses Crossbar’s Volunteer Tracking Program to accurately track volunteer hours for all families.

Signing Up & Receiving Credit

Volunteers must sign up for available positions through the Volunteer tab in Crossbar to receive credit for their hours.

It is each family’s responsibility to sign up for their volunteer shifts in Crossbar. Each time you volunteer, you must be properly registered for that shift so your hours can be tracked and credited to your account.

Crossbar will automatically track hours for volunteer opportunities scheduled through the system.

Volunteer Work Outside of Crossbar

TBD

Tracking Your Family’s Hours

The status of your completed volunteer hours will be available in Crossbar.

Families are responsible for making sure the hours they work have been credited. Be sure to keep track of the hours you have worked.

If you have worked volunteer hours and have not received credit, please contact Andrea Banaszewski.

Please do not wait until the end of the season to review your hours. It is each family’s responsibility to regularly check Crossbar and make sure the correct hours have been credited.

Please note: Volunteer credits associated with coaching and team management will be applied at the end of the season.

Volunteer Hours Required for Each Level

Junior Spartans

  • 10 hours per session
  • 20 hours if participating for the entire season

Squirts, Pee Wees & Bantams

  • 45 volunteer hours throughout the season

Concession Requirement

  • All families are required to complete 5 hours of volunteer service in concessions as part of their volunteer requirement.

What Counts Toward Volunteer Hours?

The following activities may count toward your required volunteer hours:

  • Concession shifts, including concessions during high school games
  • Pre-approved designated rink projects
  • Pre-approved fundraising events
  • Cleaning
  • Locker room monitor
  • Minor official roles for youth games, both home and away, including:
  • Scorekeeper
  • Time clock
  • Penalty box
  • Board positions
  • Coaching

What Does NOT Count Toward Volunteer Hours?

The following do not count toward your regular season volunteer-hour requirement:

  • Required hours worked during your team's Home Tournament
  • Hours worked during a high school game, unless you are working in the concession stand

Do Hours Worked During My Home Tournament Count?

Your family's required Home Tournament volunteer commitment is separate from your regular season volunteer-hour requirement.

Families are required to work the minimum number of tournament hours or shifts established by the Tournament Director and communicated through the Team Manager. This is typically 5–8 hours, depending on the tournament and team needs.

Required Home Tournament hours do NOT count toward your regular season volunteer-hour requirement.

Can I Volunteer More Than My Required Hours?

Absolutely! ❤️🖤

Keeping SYHA running successfully takes many more volunteer hours than the minimum required from our families. We greatly appreciate anyone willing to volunteer additional time to support our players, families, and association.

Can I Give Extra Volunteer Hours to Another Family?

No. Volunteer hours cannot be transferred or given to another family. Each family is responsible for completing its own volunteer requirement.

Concession Shift Cancellation & No-Shows

If a concession shift is cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, or you are a no-show, you will incur a $50 fee.

If you need to cancel your shift with less than 24 hours' notice, we ask that you first try to find someone to cover your shift.

If you are unable to find someone, please contact:

Kari Brouwer

📧 kari0909@live.com

Andrea Banaszewski

📧 banaszewskiandrea@gmail.com

They can assist with trying to find someone to cover the cancelled shift.

Never Worked Concessions Before?

If you have never worked concessions, please contact Kari Brouwer at kari0909@live.com to arrange a time to train before your scheduled shift.

Important Reminder

Families are responsible for tracking their volunteer requirements and making sure all completed hours have been properly credited in Crossbar.

We strongly encourage families to check their volunteer hours throughout the season rather than waiting until the end of the year. This will allow time to correct any missing hours and ensure your family is on track to fulfill its requirements.

Thank you for volunteering your time and helping make Somerset Youth Hockey Association successful! 🏒❤️🖤
